Works on Paper, On Canvas
New Concepts

Amitabh Ashesh made painting an exclusive pursuit in 2013. The sixty five displayed works are the first lot from his decadal effort. He hopes viewers will notice stylistic and conceptual innovations such as use of scenic elements in human figuration, anthropomorphic and recursive scenery, articulation of the invisible, exploded or extruded objects and blending of forms.

Amitabh studied painting and filmmaking as a graduate student at Stanford University, California (1988-1994) where he trained with professors Kristina Branch, Frank Lobdell, David Hannah, Jane Rosen and Larry Thomas – all of whom have prominent legacies.

Prior to 2014, he painted part time, illustrated for clients and worked at JWT and Saatchi & Saatchi advertising agencies. Later he set up a documentary film production company. He is also a prolific and oft commended poet.

An injury delayed his turn to exclusive painting by several years but he is optimistic about building a significant ouvre.

Amitabh also studied TV production at the University of Florida (1986-88) and electrical engineering at the IIT Bombay (1981-85). He was born in 1962. His wife teaches Indian and Renaissance history at the University of Delhi.
